Last weekend ORFILA were asked to play at a Christmas Concert in Folkestone for mine and Abi’s ex piano and music teacher, Mrs Thorogood. She has recently been awarded an MBE for her work in music and teaching. She has inspired us all for so many years, worked us hard and always encouraged us to pursue music as a career.
In our music lessons, I remember she would always say: “If you want something, you work hard for it… and I know you girls will…”. Sometimes you meet someone who will stay with you your whole life no matter where you go. Mrs Thorogood is definitely one of those people in my life. She is one of the most professional, kind-hearted people I have ever met. I’m sure a lot of her students, old and new, would agree that she is a fantastic teacher and we are all extremely lucky and fortunate to have been taught by such a fantastic musician and incredible teacher.
A huge thank you for everything you’ve done for us over the years and many congratulations go out to you for such an amazing achievement!

I am in Birmingham with the rest of the Orfila family. This is our second trip here and we are here because we are recording our album which we are so excited about it!! I thought I’d just take a moment in the madness to write a blog entry as I haven’t had a chance to do so for a while now. Been so busy and I’m loving every second of it! So, here is just a quick update of what has been happening:
We (Orfila) have been gigging, rehearsing and recording non-stop over the past few months and its been so much fun!
Here (above), we are just about to go back on stage for our second set when we played our very own gig at one of the Hythe Venetian Fete live concert evenings – thank you to everyone who came to support us!
Here we are with James Vince after we played our set at Quiet Riot 2013! Thank you to James for having us on the bill for such a good cause.
Me and Abi when we played at a fundraiser for a lovely little lady, Gracie Sims. We were very happy to have been asked to support this event.
We played at Hythe Aid, a local charity fundraiser, the first of many more to come, which we really enjoyed!
We did a ‘cover week’, where we posted a cover video on our youtube channel every day for a week – if you check out our youtube they are all uploaded on there. We are going to be doing a ‘Request Week’ soon, which we will announce on our facebook and twitter pages!
I am also really excited to have been cast as ‘The Ghost of Christmas Past’, in ‘A Christmas Carol: The Musical’. The show will be running at The Tower Theatre in Folkestone from 2nd-8th of December 2013!
All these experiences and opportunites are so incredible, I feel so so so lucky. And to be able to share them all with my beautiful, talented siblings makes it even more worthwhile. The past few weeks have consisted of many meetings and the next few months are going to involve putting our plans and ideas into practice.
I am going to try to write blog posts a lot more but as you can imagine, I have been a busy bee and haven’t had a chance!
So, for now, I am in Birmingham continuing to record with Orfila, gigging, rehearsing, back to University next week, will be in rehearsals for ‘A Christmas Carol’ and organizing some reaaaally exciting things that I can’t quite reveal just yet!!
